The period of seven years has passed, from the time the GMC canyon and the relative of the Chevrolet Colorado took the places of the GMC Sonoma and the Chevvy S-10 models.
The Canyon is a cheap and nice vehicle suitable to those who like the simple trucks for work. The Ford Ranger and the Colorado are also simple basic truck good for jobs; however, the Nissan Frontier and other vehicles in this class are lager in size. These trucks are more advanced in comparison and have a full size capability.
It has a unique appealing style that might be a bit better than the Colorado; the Canyon and the Chevy cohort shares the same body design. The major types of the Canyon are the regular cab, an extended-cab characterized by a small rear-hinged door and the Canyon Crew Cab with 4- full-size doors attached on front hinges. The 2011 GMC canyon models exhibits the same features of having a short five-foot, one-inch bed, and a six feet long Crew Cab’s bed. Its cabin is not handsome, and has many banished trims of plastics even from the cheap cars.
The 2011 GMC Canyon has a powertrains that resembles that of a Colorado. The kind of engine it uses is the four -cylinder, the four cylinder is not better than the five-cylinder. The disappointments are much when a four- cylinder with the 185-horsepower is used compared to the five –cylinder which is more powerful with 242-horsepower and 3.7-liter. However, the best engine that performs well in the Canyon is the 5.3-liter V-8 with 300-horsepower. Contrary, these engines are not easily available; they are only available on the most expensive models of the 2011 GMC. The bad side of this engine is that, the rate at which it consumes fuel is very high. The best rate of fuel consumption on the Canyon model is around 25mpg, but this is seen as a bit fair compared to the fuel consumption rate of most mid-size pickups. The 2011 Canyon accept a fulltime four – wheel drive and is offered with both the manual and automatic transmissions. On the other hand it has a very poor handling: the Canyon is very much disappointing on twisty roads, and plays a lot on freeways.
The Canyon has been rated at four-stars by the federal test due to the above standard equipments it has. Such equipments includes the standard anti-lock brakes and stability control, together with the crash-test .with XM, leather seats, fog lamps, a traction control a sunroof, a sliding rear window and a 6-CD changer as options , the Canyon has also been equipped with Air conditioners, nicely tilted steering wheel, folding exterior mirrors and cruise control, all are of standard value. The 2011model year has a more advanced model; the new model is of standard OnStar, these are Bluetooth connectivity and new front seat headrests which shows the current technology at work.
