There is another of the Cadillac DTS in the market representing the full-size Cadillac model in 2011 releases. General Motors has released the 2011 Cadillac DTS amidst plans to remove the car from its line of cars and replace it with a all wheel drive XTS Sedan. This means that the 2011 Cadillac DTs may be the last one in the Cadillac series. Even as its is being edged out, the Cadillac remains a big name in the world of luxury cars with a number of its stretched version still in use as airport shuttles, limousines and hearses.
The Cadillac remains unbeaten in its luxurious large interior space, a feature only captured by two other cars in the market; the Buick Lucerne and Lincoln Town Car by Ford. The Cadillac DTS has a very attractive interiors with details such as a touch screen LCD, comfortable leather seats and a wood trimmed dash which make up for the less appealing large egg-crate grille.
The common front-drive DTS often used for black car services weighs over 4000 pounds. It comes with a relatively archaic drive train. The engine power of the 4.6 liter V8 ranges between 275 horsepower and 292 hp in different versions with the only shifter a four-speed automatic transmission. Though the Cadillac has low fuel economy at 15/23 mpg, its acceleration is high enough to suit it for sedate missions. The DTS provides equal comfort for both the front and rear passengers regardless of their sitting position. Base versions are characterized by a comfortable ride which includes Magnetic Ride Control, better steering and better ride response in higher versions.
Both the standard and the long-wheel base form Cadillac have a luxuriously spacious interior. The DTS-L version raises the ante with an extra 8 inches of wheelbase for more comfort. The stock DTS features two front “bucket” seats with an option of a six-seat version. It has a smaller trunk space compared to other luxurious cars such as the Ford Taurus.
The DTS has a long list of standard safety features including six airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability and traction controls. However the DTS is yet to be tested by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety administration) on side impact and crash tests. Other features of the DTS are a lane departure warning system, blind spot alert systems, adaptive cruise control and front and rear parking sensors.
Additional features in the DTS include a remote start, dual zone automatic climate control, an AM/FM/CD/XM audio system, Onstar and a 5-passenger seating on a floor mounted shifter. Though the DTS has a base rate of $47,000, the price is pushed higher by additional such as XM NavTraffic and ventilated seats.
The major change in the 2011 Cadillac DTS is an enhanced Onstar system capable of recognizing real speech better than former versions. The new Onstar system can recognize over 30 speech patterns within English, Spanish, Mandarin and French; the four languages in which it is availed.
