Basic features
The 2011 BMW 1 –Series largely resembles the other models in the series with minor but arguably significant alterations which place it a notch ahead of the previous models in the 1-series. Despite the fact that only a few changes have been effected over the previous models, the BMW 2011 1-Series introduces another great machine to watch in the luxury sporting car market. The few adjustments give the car an edge over other makers in the entry-level luxury cars in the market. The model retains the series styling which lures one to it just because you like it.
Key features
The BMW 2011 1-series gives the feeling of power and captures the style that many people seek in luxury cars affordably. The model is arguably a major hit though some motor critics may dissent the appearance of the BMW’s fourth gen iDrive which is evident in the 2011 model.
The model designer replaced the automatic transmission with a seven- speed DCT (dual-cloth transmission). This feature gives the model a high level transmission which allows for smooth shifts when the car is in the automatic mode. When the car is in the manual mode, the high-transmission creates precise and revolution matched shifts.
Another major adjustment is in the engine system of the new model. The BMW 2011 1- Series 135i engine has been updated. A 3000-horse power single turbo with a twin scroll has been adopted to replace the twin-turbo inline cylinder featured in the previous models. This engine type has also been adopted in the 128i model. The two engine types can fit and work in both the coupe and convertible BMW body styles.
There is a long list of options that can are available in bringing out the features of the BMW 2011 1-series. These options can be captured in the wide variances in the materials and equipment used as well as in the resulting appearance. The technical part of the BMW 2011 1-Series is still built around the features of the fourth generation iDrive system. The system in the 2011 model is much more improved as compared to the systems in previous generations though it has its own complexities.
The BMW 2011 1-Series in the market now is selling at a relatively stable base price of $30,035 for the 128i model. The 135i model rates higher in the market at $36,925. A common feature in all the 1-Series models remains that all the cars in the series are rear-wheel drive. The entry of the BMW 2011 1-Series in the market faces relative competition from other entry-level luxury cars. Among the cars that offer significant competition is the Audi 3, the Porsche Boxster, the Cayman and the Lexus IS and IS C.
