The most significant feature of the 2011 Cadillac STS is that it lacks the usual V-8 compadres. The model is slowly facing out as its replacement, the Cadillac XTS sedan is expected in the market in about 2012. But before it is exited, the STS feature a powerful V-6 engine and maintains artistic and scientific theme on its metallic body. Though the STS could fall behind the smaller CTS due to its plainer and bulky looks, its still maintains the stature of the larger DTS sedan and does not disappoint on its interiors. German features can be clearly seen in the cool and desirable cabin in the STS. The STS arrives in brilliant overhead lighting though its materials may not match those of more plush machines like the Mercedes and BMW.
The STS is powered by a 3.6 liter, direct injection V-6, and 302 horsepower with 6-speed automatic. An all drive is optional with the STS because the Cadillac has an effective handling system includes l 18-inch chrome wheels, summer tires by Michelin and Brembo 4-piston braking system. The shift from a V-8 to a V-6 option isn’t much of a setback as the V-6 nearly matches the V-8 cylinder in speed, and it beats the former in fuel economy at 17/29mpg against 13/19mpg. In addition, the Cadillac STS accelerates quickly, has superb handling and excellent steering. It employs Magnetic Ride Controls to constantly re-adjust shock firmness to ensure a smooth and comfortable ride.
The STS doesn’t do much to provide the much needed interior space than the CTS though it is built to a larger class size than the CTS. It offers ample space and comfortable seats at the front but the back suffers from little room almost uncomfortable for an average adult. The trunk however is sizeable and ample to carry average luggage size.
The STS ranks very low in crash safety with its standard safety gear comprising of only a dual front side, anti-lock brakes, curtain airbags and stability and traction controls. The national Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not yet provided the tests results for 2011 but ahs ranked previous models at an overall 4-star and 5-star for side protection on the back seat passengers. The insurance Institute for Highway safety also rates the STS at mixed scales: it’s rated “good” in frontal offset protection, the side impact results are rated as “acceptable” while the rear impact is rated as “poor”. Available safety options area an adaptive cruise control, blind spot and lane-departure warning systems.
The 2011 STS still features a standard AM/FM/XM/CD/MP3 audio system, climate control, a wood-trimmed heated steering wheel and a wooden and metallic trimmed dash. To make it more appealing, the STS have options for a remote start, ventilated seats, a head-up display and a navigation system.
