The Range Rover Sport from Land Rover for 2011 is a luxury SUV seemingly the progeny of a lineage of vehicles with an impressive off-road heritage and tradition. The Sport is a blatant attempt from Land Rover to attract urban attention and to prove its mobility in all-weather rather than for all terrain adventure.
It has many similarities with the Land Rover LR3. The Sport is nearly 8-inches shorter in length than the Range Rover. In addition it has lesser ground clearance by 2.5 inches. The sport however lacks the grace for off-road to the extent that its name suggests but it is still ahead of most of its competition. It has 4WD with a 2-speed transfer, descent and ascent controls, a system used to synchronizes suspension and power-train for beat tractive force in a variety of surfaces including mud, snow, dirt and gravel. In addition, it also has electronic locking differential system for the rear.
In 2010 when some revisions were made on the Sport, a V8, 5.0-liter engine producing 510 hp placed this vehicle in the same league as the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and BMW X5 M. the unfortunate thing is that the Range Sport is not as reliable as other of its competitors are.
Shortcomings of this SUV include poor storage space. However for buyers looking for good manners on-road, a luxurious cabin, great looks and great name, the Range Rover Sport is the ideal choice.
The Range Rover Sport seats five-passengers and is available in two trim levels namely the Supercharged and HSE. The HSE has standard 19-inch wheels, bi-xenon headlights, sunroof and adjustable air suspension which has adaptive damping, parking sensors for front and rear , keyless entry/ ignition, power front seats which have memory settings for the driver, climate control with dual-zone, wood interior trim, leather upholstery, navigation system bearing off-road tracking, tilt and power steering, Harman Kardon sound system with 9-speakers, 6-CD changer, separate USB/iPod ports Bluetooth and auxiliary jack.
There’s an optional Luxury arrangement/ package which comes with 20-inch wheels, heated washer jets and windshield, heated seats at the front and rear, premium leather upholstery, available black trim, cooler box and driver seat adjustments. The supercharged trim model comes with all of the aforementioned goodies plus Brembo front brakes, shift paddled steering wheel, more powerful engine, response suspension system that is dynamic, unique upholstery and grille.
There’s an Autobiography package that comes with adaptive headlights, unique grille, exterior treatment and wheels, automatic high beams, rear roof spoiler, parking assist camera that is 360 degrees, premium surround sound 14-speaker system with High Definition radio and upgraded leather.
For the year 2011, there is a Limited Edition of the Sport-GT that adds to the standard/ base HSE the majority of the features of the Autobiography package. This can only be obtained in single color of Fuji White. Most features present here can be added as options to the HSE. A rear seat DVD entertainment system is an option available for all models.
