2011 Ford Edge Review

The Ford Edge 2011 has undergone a lot of modifications with a more powerful engine, classy exterior, reduced road and wind noise and upgraded interior.

Trims available for include: SE, SEL, Limited and Sport. All these are front wheel drive. Standard features in the SE include seventeen-inch alloy wheels, tilt /telescoping steering wheel, air conditioning, 6-speaker CD player, auxiliary audio jack and full power accessories.  The SEL adds automatic headlights, eighteen-inch wheels, rear parking sensors, upgraded cloth upholstery, satellite radio, and automatic dual-zone climate control and 6-way power adjustable driver seat.

Features in the limited version include heated front seats, power adjustable front passenger seat, ten-way power adjustable driver seat, ambient lighting, Ford Sync, MyFord Touch interface, two USB inputs, leather seating, a premium twelve speaker Sony sound system and a rearview camera. The Sport adds the following features to the Limited version, sport-tuned suspension, transmission paddle shifters and twenty-two inch wheels.

Optional additional features in the lower trim levels include panoramic sunroof, xenon headlights, twenty-inch wheels, power lift gate, keyless ignition, adaptive cruise control, real-time traffic and a Sirius travel link with SD-card navigation system.

The three trim levels of 2011 Ford Edge i.e. the S, SEL and the Limited, come equipped with a 285 horsepower 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 253 pound-feet of torque. This is paired to 6-speed automatic transmission. The Sport trim has six speed automatic 305 horsepower 3.7 liter V6 engine that produces 280pound-feet of torque. It also has a manual shift control.

The fuel-efficiency according to EPA is estimated at 19 miles per gallon in the city and 27 miles per gallon on the highway for a 3.5-liter front-wheel drive. Combined fuel efficiency is rated at 22 miles per gallon for this. For the all-wheel drive the fuel efficiency drops 19 miles per gallon in the city and 26 miles per gallon on the highway with a combined fuel efficiency of 21 miles per gallon. The front-wheel drive Edge Sport has a fuel efficiency of 18 miles per gallon in the city, 25 miles per gallon on the highway and a combined fuel efficiency of 20 miles per gallon whereas the all-wheel drive has a rated fuel efficiency of 17 miles per gallon in the city, 23 miles per gallon in on the highway and a combined fuel efficiency of 19 miles per gallon.

Some of the new interior features in the Ford Edge 2011 include MYFord Touch with three display screens. This interface has various audio input commands, voice or touch navigation and phone functions.

The Edge can accommodate five passengers, with back seats having adequate legroom. This makes it suitable for long trips.

With all seats in use a cargo capacity 32.2 cubic feet can be obtained.  Cargo space of 68.9 cubic feet can obtained with the second –row seats folded down.

The Ford Edge 2011 was awarded 3 stars for frontal offset tests and 4 stars for the rollover test. In the side crash test it received five stars. Standard safety features include the anti-lock disc brakes, airbags (front seat and side curtain airbags), stability control (Advance Trac). The Mykey system helps to improve the safety of teen drivers. Optional safety features include the cross-traffic monitoring system and the blind spot information system.

The average price for the Ford Edge 2011 may range between $27.333 and $37,960. Ford offers a basic warranty of 36,000 miles and a powertrain warranty of 60,000 miles.
