This model seeks many things, among them to achieve hybrid-like fuel efficiency and coupe-style character. However, the end is a myriad of complexities that the layman is unwilling to indulge in. the BMW X5 is based on the construction of the full-sized X5. The X6 is more personalized as can be noted from the fact that it is meant for four passengers. Its sloping roof reduces head-room at the rear seats, cargo space and visibility outward. It is the equivalent of the conventional coupe.
The X6 is BMW first hybrid system which is a collaboration with GM and Daimler Chrysler. The X6 can be propelled at low speed on battery power only. The BMW X5 xDrive50i’s turbocharged V8 and the ActiveHybrid produce 480 hp and 575 lb-ft of torque which is greater than the xDrive50i. All the hybrid components (mainly the batteries) however, add weight of up to 500 pounds, compromising its cornering performance and acceleration. A hybrid is supposed to be fuel efficient but the ActiveHybrid, due to its weight and power only betters the 300 horsepower X6 xDrive35i’s fuel consumption rating by only 1 mpg in the EPA combined driving.
The BMW X6, according to many test drivers is among the best handling Sports Utility Vehicles available. Its considerable weight gain and the loss of trick Dynamic performance however, means that the X6 is not as pleasant to drive as compared to its non-electrified brother the X5. The 2011 ActiveHybrid X6 is overly complicated with no additional dividends paid to the owner in terms of performance or exemplary experience. In comparison, many agree that the BMW X5 is a more worthwhile buy. What’s more is that it costs less while delivering an additional 4 mpg as rated in the combined cycle EPA. In testing for performance, the ActiveHybrid X6 hustled from a stop to 60 mile per hour in 5.5 seconds which is a similar sort of performance as that of the standard V8 powered X6. Fuel economy as given in EPA ratings is 17 mpg for city, 19 mpg for highway while 18 mpg is the combined rating.
The BMW X6 is a 4-passenger Sports Utility Vehicle that comes in one trim level. Te standard package includes self leveling suspension, 20-inch wheels, adaptive, automatic xenon headlights, parking sensors at the front and rear, auto-dimming mirrors, sunroof, power tail-gate, automatic soft-close doors, keyless ignition/ entry, 14-way heated power seats equipped with adjustable lumbar and bolsters, running boards, driver memory functions, leather upholstery with dash trim, power steering with tilt and telescoping capabilities, navigation system equipped with voice controls and traffic in real-time, a head-up display, BMW Assist Telematics, Bluetooth and a 6-CD/DVD changer audio system with 12 speakers, iPod/USB adapter, auxiliary audio jack and HD radio.
