The Mercedes-Benz E-class Coupe is the new name of the brand’s CLK series. In an effort to clear out the confusion with similar series name such as the C, the CL, and the CLS, the CLK adopts the E nomenclature hopefully with some refinements beyond the name change. The E-class is being offered in two forms or specifically in two engine forms – the V6 powered E350 and the V8 E550.
The new E-class Coupe fills the void left by the CLK. It is touted to have the lowest coefficient of drag among series production cars. In numbers, that translates to 0.24 which is quite good, any way you look at it.
Combining fascination and efficiency, this two door version of the sedan gets its power train from the E-class sedan and its size from the C-class. The E350 has a base price of $ 48,925.00 and comes with a lot of standard equipment that was not previously found in the CLK 350 particularly the COMAND user interface, auto dimming mirror, Bluetooth, three additional airbags and the sliding glass panorama roof. An interesting feature can be found in the Attention-Assist System which is a system of forewarning a driver suffering from loss of concentration due to fatigue. The “erring” driver gets to be scolded with a message and a coffee-cup shown on the instrument cluster display once the system reaches a decision based on at least 70 factors. The E350 is powered by a 3.5LVG engine that produces 268 hp and is equipped by a 7-speed automatic transmission.
The Mercedes-Benz E550 has a base price of $ 55,525.00. It is powered by a V8 engine that produces horsepower of 382 hp and torque of 391 lb-ft. It is likewise equipped with 7-speed automatic transmission. The E350 is fitted with Dynamic Handling System which facilitates better body control and smoother ride through the use of computer-controlled adjustable shocks. Mercedes-Benz justifies this choice over the Airmatic because of the expected sportier driving experience. Many are guessing however that the high cost of the Air Spring System may have a lot to do with the decision.
These two E-Coupes offer the advantage of quicker steering and quietness on the road comparable to that of the S-class levels. It performs more like a high speed grand tourer rather than a sports car. Majority of its buyers will consider its looks and most will see the interior quality as one of its positive highlights. Traditional styling elements identified with the brand are also seen in the E-class Coupes including the fully retractable side windows which are not interrupted by a B-pillar as well as the sports radiator grille with the large central star. Mercedes-Benz E-class Coupe holds the distinction of having the most comprehensive safety features package in its category.
