The invasion of German-made luxury sedans in the luxurious setting of Palm Springs, California is happening. Everywhere you look in this town, you’re bound to spot these equally luxurious machines. By the way things are shaping up, we appear to be witnessing a 3-way fight between and among the BMW 760Li, the Mercedes Benz S63 AMG, and the Porsche Panamera Turbo.
The BMW 760Li is the latest addition to the brand’s 7-Series line up which boasts of excellent suspension technology, luxurious comfort amenities, and highly-novel driver assistance systems. Its design reflects the merger of elegance and sportiness while its performance standard is raised to a new level by its V-12 engine. BMW’s new V-12 has been improved to maximize output and peak torque, optimize engine response and continuous power surge as well as further refine engine acoustics. It provides horsepower of 544 hp at 5250 rpm and torque of 553 lb-ft at 1500 rpm.
Standard equipment includes Dynamic Damping Control, Servotronic Steering Assistance, air suspension with self-leveling rear axle, and light-speed automatic transmission. It highlights supreme comfort through the Professional Navigation System, automatic cruise control, automatic air conditioning with 4-zone control, automatic soft-close doors, and comfort seat. The 760Li comes as an improvement to its predecessor in every aspect. Its long-wheel base form provides ample space for everyone in the car.
The Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG is one of the brand’s top-of-the-line S-class models that has benefited from recent fine tuning measures. Powered by a 6.3L V-8 engine that provides horsepower of 525 hp and torque 465 lb-ft, the car now runs with improved fuel consumption and carbon emissions as well. Its exterior look has been modified to accommodate a more emphasized arrow-shape radiator grille plus a new front apron which fluidly incorporates LED daytime driving lights and transverse air outlets found on each side. Notable features include crosswind stabilization, torque vectoring brake, direct-steer system plus some exclusive optional extras.
The Porsche Panamera Turbo is powered by a 4.8L V8 Twin-Turbo engine with direct fuel injection which generates 500 hp at 6000 rpm with a maximum torque of 516 lb-ft between 2250 and 4500 rpm. Optimum engine performance is ensured through its electronic management system. Exhaust turbo-charging is facilitated through two charge-air coolers. The Panamera line is seen as contrary to the signature offerings of Porsche, being a full-size luxury car instead of the usual 2-door rear-engine sports car.
These three models offer respectable, if not remarkable driving experience with each having its strong and weak points. The Panamera was specifically made to be fast and efficient. The S63 shines with its active suspension while the 760Li revs it up with a revolutionary engine.
