2010 Volkswagen GTI – The Comeback

When a car model/series dares to make a comeback, it better be good or else all efforts would have been in vain. This becomes especially so when a name or reputation has to be upheld. In this regard, the 2010 Volkswagen GTI does not falter.
The original hot hatch comes back bringing refinements – lots of it. This it does in the same breathe that it holds on to the same 200 hp inline-4 engine it first used in 2006. Most of its competitors have opted to aim for bigger power – seeking to achieve anywhere from 237 to 265 horsepower. The 2010 Volkswagen GTI retains its 2.0L inline 4 16-valve direct injection engine that provides 200 hp at 5100 rpm and torque of 207 lb-ft at 1800 rpm. The brand sees its engine as an important component of its success formula.
GTI offers the 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan versions with both using the same engine and similar interior features. Exterior revisions are most notable on its front end and results to an edgier style. A new grille is featured in front while a subtle roof spoiler and diffuser-type valence grace the rear. As usual, the layout of instruments and controls is clean and clear but the interior benefits from some sprucing up through high-quality materials and added equipments including the tilting and telescoping steering wheel, auxiliary input jack, and Touchscreen controls for audio and Bluetooth.
Performance and handling just got better with the 2010 Volkswagen GTI’s sport-tuned suspension and 200 hp turbocharged engine. Safety remains a primary consideration with the GTI’s standard front-side curtain and side thorax airbags plus traction and stability controls. The hatchback design remains as versatile as ever, appearing compact and sporty in the outside but easily transforms into a cargo mover when the rear seats are folded flat. The badge at the back of the GTI ceases to be a mere decorative feature since it has been made to function as the handle to open the hatch. The 18-inch Detroit alloy wheels perform as well as complement the body, allowing the bright red brake calipers to just shine through.
The likes of Mazda Speed 3, Mitsubishi Lancer, and Subaru WRX might just beat the GTI in acceleration time but the GTI easily turns the table on its competitors in terms of interior styling and brand identity. It is the perfect sport compact that exudes unequalled class and solid capabilities. It is an all-in-one performance car that provides true value in the less than $ 25,000.00 category.
