Not a few competitors would not envy the reputation established by the Toyota Tacoma. The company has the Tacoma to thank for its continued dominance in the compact pick-up category. Toyota has been at it with the Stout, the Hilux, the Compact Pick-up and of course the Tacoma. What started out as a basic and functional truck, became the powerful, roomy, and highly refined truck that it is today.
The MSRP for the 2010 Toyota Tacoma 4 x 4 Double Cab V6 TRD has a range of $ 15,345.00 to $ 27,250.00. There are two engines offered – the 2.7L DOHC 4-cylinder that provides 159 hp and 180 lb-ft of torque and the 4.0L DOHC V6 that offers 236 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. The V6 engine can be paired with a 6-speed manual or 5-speed automatic transmission. Four-cylinder 4 x 4 models are equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission while the 4 x 2 models have a choice between a 4-speed automatic transmission and a 5-speed manual transmission.
Standard safety features found in the Tacoma include the driver airbag, passenger airbag, side airbag, side curtains, traction control, stability control, and anti-theft system. Its vehicle stability control enhances on or off-road traction by providing assistance that will ensure that the vehicle stays on course. Slides can be detected by the system. Models that come with an automatic transmission are equipped with Hill-Start Assist Control. Off-Road Packages also throw in the Downhill Assist Control.
Double cab models are offered options including the Premium JBL audio six-CD system which is Bluetooth-compatible and includes a satellite radio system. The exterior design is characterized by big headlights and grille, flush rear surface glass, surface structures between the bumper sides and body, bold over fenders, and a roof rack system with crossbars deploying from the roof rails. The Double Cab has two choices for its bed – the 60.3-inch bed or the 73.5-inch bed.
The interior is fairly simple but is quite functional. A center console comes standard in Double Cab models. The console and the instrument panel present a perfectly unified appearance while integrating 3 cup holders. Added features are the 60/40 split rear seats that come with adjustable headrest and storage.
There are a number of vehicles eyeing the same market as the Tacoma including the Honda Ridgeline, the RAM Dakota, and the Nissan Frontier. What sets the Tacoma apart from the rest is its solid construction. Smaller pick-ups like the Tacoma are getting much attention from owners intending to use it as daily drivers. This makes good sense not only because it is easy to drive and park, but also because it is able to provide a decent ride and ample towing and loading capacity as well.
