Volvo has been tantamount to the word safety because of its heavy branding and advertisement. But Volvo wanted the new S60 to be more than just safe. Volvo wants the S60 to be sexy and intelligent. It wants to combine both style and substance into the new S60.
Safety has been Volvo’s staple since we can remember and it has bolstered that appeal with its brand new pedestrian-detection system which is part of the $2,100 Technology Package. The Technology Package includes collision warning combined with full automatic braking, adaptive cruise control and gives you warning signals if you are out of your lane or if a pedestrian is near.
But Volvo has more safety features such as a camera and radar based mechanism that can help detect if a person suddenly walks in front the car. And it automatically activates full braking power if the driver does not react in time. The system uses a radar located in the front grille of the vehicle. The radar serves as an extra pair of eyes for the driver.
The Volvo S60 has a turbocharged, 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder engine that gives a 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque combined with a six-speed automatic transmission. An all wheel drive system is used to help the car handle tough roads.
Volvo uses different suspension setups for the S60 so that customers have a choice on what is best suited for them. You can choose among the Dynamic suspension setup, a softer Touring suspension, and a driver-controlled FOUR-C Active system. The electronically controlled FOUR-C gives the driver a choice among Comfort, Sport, and Advanced settings. The different settings can be used for different kinds of roads or different kinds of driving experience. For longer rides you can choose to use the comfort mode for a better ride experience.
Volvo’s exterior brings a different kind of sexy intelligence on wheels. Its sleek design and aesthetic can catch any wandering eye. The Volvo S60’s interior is astounding and gets its inspiration from the racetrack. The interior is well made and is an example of design execution.
The Volvo S60 is crisp on the road with its powerful engine and good handling. Braking is smooth and maneuvering around corners and curves is excellent. The car gives a good driving experience and comfortable ride.
The Volvo S60 has a base price of $38,550 which is a good deal for all that it offers.
