Mercedes-Benz has been consistently good with its releases. When you hear the name Mercedes-Benz it is almost always synonymous with elegance, style, power, and substance. Those words are almost always used together or by themselves to describe the Benz. But with the Mercedes-Benz GL350 Bluetec will we still hear the same words?
If you compare the GL350 with other cars you can gauge how well the Mercedes-Benz has done with its latest release but its competitors such as the BMW X5 35D and the Audi Q7 TDI have better horsepower and torque than the GL. And the two abovementioned cars have equal or more efficient fuel economy and lower tag prices. These aren’t doomsday signs for the GL but a matter of personal preference.
The GL350 may not lead in terms of torque, fuel efficiency, or power but the GL350 integrates the diesel drive train very well. The engine is quiet yet powerful and has the refinements of a gasoline engine. The seven-speed automatic is user-friendly and makes shifts rather easily.
One of the main reasons to buy a diesel is its fuel efficiency especially in these tough economic times. Compared with its brother from another mother the GL450 is a gas guzzler. In the GL350’s defense it has improved in the fuel economy category it delivers 4 mpg in the city and 5 mpg on the highway.
Diesel engine technology has come a long way from noisy, heavy, gas guzzling machines to a more efficient, quiet yet powerful machines and the GL350 has benefited from this.
The diesel engine at the heart of the GL350 Bluetec is, no words can describe it. It provides power and the roar of a truck but is as subtle and elegant that is a Mercedes-Benz trademark. The 3.0-liter diesel engine offers a 400 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 rpm.
The GL350 tag price of $60,825 makes it the most affordable in its brood.
The GL350′s diesel engine is quiet and extremely well insulated that you can hardly hear it from anywhere inside the car. With these features it has the power of a diesel engine but approximates the capacity of a gasoline engine. You can save a lot of fuel when you drive this baby in winter or any kind of trip.
Overall the GL350 is worth a look because of its well made interior and exterior design. It offers a lot with its diesel powered engine. But at the end of the day personal preference always wins the argument.
