Sports cars usually demand two important factors, the first being class, the second power. The 2011 Jaguar XKR Coupe delivers both, from the British developer’s innate sense of class and luxury, and from the fact that in their essence, jaguars are powerful and beautiful creatures.
The Jaguar X series was started back in 2007, and the XKR brings with it new exterior design ideas. Although a bit more angled than its predecessors, the XKR still maintains the unique shape of the series, with additional chrome trim, LED headlights, a new rear spoiler, and a new front bumper. Overall, the exterior speaks volumes towards elegance, without saying very much at all, a tribute to simple and intentionally inconspicuous design.
The inside maintains the same philosophy, as the interior has had only a few trim additions, while still having the classic Jaguar shifter knob as a tribute to its heritage. The dashboard and main console are decorated by elegant gauges, beautiful but without compromising functionality by losing the driver in intricacies. A new audio system comes with the XKR, including support for various media formats, such as CD’s, media players that can be plugged in via a USB or auxiliary cord, as well as AM, FM, and Sirius Satellite radio. Leather covers most of the interior, along with various instances of stained wood trim and paneling, adding further class to the XKR. The front seats are also leather bound and extremely comfortable, and are electronically adjustable as well. In addition, the back is capable of holding a considerable amount of luggage easily and without it rolling around due to travel, which is good considering the fact that the XKR can really go places.
The Jaguar XKR’s main source of power is the new “Gen III” 5.0-liter AJ-V8 engine, which is based in an aluminum alloy and has 32 valves and dual overhead cams. This in addition to a direct fuel injection system, variable cam phasing, and other various engine modifications sends the XKR along the road at a whopping 510 horsepower between 6000-6500 rpms, as well as 461 lb.-ft. of torque. It has 6-speed automatic transmission, which can be toggled to semi-auto to full on manual at the desire of the driver. Gas consumption winds up at a laudable 15/22 street/highway mpg average.
The 2011 Jaguar XK is a beautiful and elegant creature that will have you hum with enjoyment as the motor itself purrs, waiting to be unleashed.
