By Charles on Mar 20, 2011 with Comments 0

Perhaps one of the simplest aspects of garage services is managing the engine oil. This is the aspect that tends to cause problems for many people. They are simply not able to comprehend the basic strategies that are required to keep the vehicle in good working order. The oil checks are the responsibility of the driver. You should never embark on a long journey before you are absolutely certain about the oil status of the vehicle.

These are the sorts of sacrifices and checks that are part of the driving experience. Once you are certain about the oil then you can look at other stuff. The garage services will also involve a major change to the oil if you have driven the vehicle for a long time. This is a technical task that will require specialist skills. It is not easy to be able to do it on a DIY basis. Therefore you might have to call in the mechanic. The work of replacing the oil is made simpler if you have been keeping the vehicle in good working order. There are some cars that arrive at the garage doors when they are simply “rotten”.

Analysis of the relationship between garage services and engine oil

The process for replacing the engine oil starts when you place the car on a level sport. This will prevent it from sliding down and will give you the right surface for completing the task at hand. Do not attempt to work on the vehicle when it is slanted. First of all you need to ensure that you are back on the right plane. If you cannot push the car then you need to obtain the support of a breakdown service. The engine has to be stopped before the garage services begin.

This is because there is danger that arises from the hot fluids that are used to run the engine. You might also set off a fire if you work on an engine that is live. The engine oil is quite hot and you need to let it cool for a while. You might need to use gloves in order to protect your hands. The engine oil will pour down the pan for a while and then you can pull the dipstick. The car manual will give you hints on where the various parts are and the best way to deal with them. It is important that you read the manual before proceeding to the garage services. It will save you energy and time.

The excess oil has to be wiped off with tissue or a rug. You can then insert the various parts into their allocated slots. The full mark is the ideal but it could be lower. You might top up if the mark is too low. You need to look at the color and texture of the engine oil that you are dealing with. If it is too black then you need to change it. The slightly brown color is fine. One of the warning signs is if the engine oil is white. This means that the coolant has mixed with the oil. A blown head gasket can be the problem.

You will need to take the vehicle for garage services depending on the locality where you are based. The specialists can then help you to replace the engine oil at the time. If you find that the level is too low then you can top up with a brand that is recommended for the vehicle. There is a lot of marketing hype that surrounds engine oil and you need to be prepared to do some investigation in order to get to the bottom of the best products for your vehicle.
