Emergency Checks for Your Vehicle

By Charles on Mar 20, 2011 with Comments 0

The garage services will provide a checklist of items that you are supposed to look at in order to have a safe journey. It is imperative that you are prepared for the journey in advance. If you do not take the requisite steps then you might find that it is increasingly difficult to control the various aspects of your vehicle management systems. In case you have a roadside emergency, you need to be aware of the things that you need. If you know about these things then you might make some early preparations for that eventuality.

Jump leads

These are required in case the battery requires an extra lift. They can be used according to the nature of the breakdown. However you need to ensure that they are in good working order. The garage services may not provide these items when you take your car for a routine check but you need to ensure that they are bought and stored somewhere in the vehicle. It will save you the hassle of asking other drivers to help you out when you have an incident on the motorway.

An inflated spare tyre

You never know when the old tyre is going to give up. Therefore you need to have a spare just in case it is needed. It is important to have one at the back of the vehicle even if the garage services have not specified it. Most modern vehicles have one and you need to check on them from time to time to ensure that they are in good working order. It would be a pity if you had a break down on the road and then found out that your spare tyre was deflated.

Emergency numbers and stationery

You need to have contacts that will help you when you are stuck on the road. The garage services might provide you with coverage for a fee. You need to discuss with them the options before making a final decision on your next step. Likewise you need to take up some of the most important issues that are affecting the way that you drive the car on the road as well as the mechanical condition of the vehicle. If you do this, then the likelihood of a breakdown will be significantly reduced.

Torches and extra batteries

You cannot work well in the dark. That is why you might need torches and extra batteries in order to deal with the demands of a breakdown. These are the kinds of emergency supplies that can make all the difference to the way that you handle an incident on the road. In addition you might be well advised to carry some reflective devices so that other drivers can see that you are stuck on the road. It could prevent a very serious accident. In colder weather you might require an ice scraper. The garage services are likely to have this sort of equipment which they can sell to you at a reasonable price.

First aid kits

You might need some first aid as a result of the incident. Therefore it makes sense for you to buy a kit in advance which you can use from time to time. It also makes sense for you to ensure that that kit is well stocked and that you know how to use the implements. You should also get some bottled water or some other hot drink to keep you going. The contacts of the garage services must be on hand when you need them.
