Doing Some Finishing Touches on Your Clutch

When you undertake clutch replacement, there are various lessons that you will learn. In particular you will understand how the vehicle operates and some of the issues that might reduce its efficiency. Once you understand these issues then it is relatively easy to handle the various requirements of the vehicle. You also need to keep in touch with the basic requirements of the driving experience. For example you might decide that it is better to take a fairly relaxed approach to the repairs unless you have expertise. Some people will do a DIY job when undertaking clutch replacement. If you can secure the right tips then this is a process that is well within your reach regardless of the previous experiences that you have had with the vehicle.
Dealing with the pressure bolt
The torque is applied to the pressure bolt at about 18 ft-lbs. You need to look at the previous maintenance schedule and if you were not the last person to do this process then it might be in your best interests to replace the bolts. It is important that you follow the set pattern that has been agreed. In the meantime you might need to look back at the pressure settings to ensure that they are broadly reflective of the way that you have been handling the vehicle. The other aspect of your work will be to ensure that all the parts are secured. The last thing that you need after clutch replacement is for the various parts to be hanging out.
Back checks
You need to check the back of the pressure plates when undertaking clutch replacement. The bolts there have to be snug. Ensure that they are not too tight such that they run the risk of breaking up if you push them any further. This is a delicate process that requires an element of sophistication. You can give them a gentle nudge if you feel that they are not entirely functional in the way that you would like them to operate. Some mechanics have recommended the use of Loctite on the flywheel as well as the clutch cover bolts. This will ensure that there is no hanging when you have patently finished the job. You need to rev the L series to ensure that they do not become loose over time.
Wire brushes and other materials
It is advisable that you use wire brush as well as other materials to clean the crud that is normally ensconced in the bolt threads. Working on clutch replacement requires that you have a clean environment. It is also easier to stick things back together when the debris has been removed from the bolts. You can work with your fingers and also complete the task within reasonable time periods regardless of the pressures applied. These are the choices that you need to make in order to improve your driving experience.
Greasing is essential
The vehicle might not need all that friction as you work on clutch replacement. Therefore you need to get a good quality greasing material which you can use to improve the way that you handle the various parts. In particular you will need to work out the right greasing levels for the bearing sleeve as well as the shaft splines. The transmission bell housing may also need some greasing in order to make your work easier. Make sure that you do not blow the black dust that is found there. It has some asbestos elements that are very dangerous to human health.
