Since its official launch, the Honda CR-Z has received a great number of appreciations and also named as the Japan’s Car of the Year. However, this appreciation and title didn’t help to raise the sales of the Honda CR-Z as expected. The company feels that the hybrid technology might not be appreciated enough for the value they offer. The company is planning to come up with an alternative Turbo version where they drop the hybrid power-train in favor of a regular engine.
There are reports that the future Honda CR-Z Turbo will take its design from the Honda CR-Z R Concept. These are just rumors and we are still trying to get some more information about the future Honda CR-Z turbo.
We can assume that unlike hybrid version, the Turbo version will be little more aggressive in its looks quite similar to the Honda CR-Z R Concept version.
The Hybrid version came with a 4-cylinder, 16-valve, single overhead cam engine with ‘intelligent’ Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control (i-VTEC) along with the IMA system’s DC brushless electric motor with an output of 122HP and 128lb-ft of torque.
We can expect that the new Turbo version will come with a forced-induction 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that will be offered in two versions. The powerful engine will produce 200HP and 175ft-lb of torque.
The new Turbo version will go on sale at the end of 2011.
