An interesting event that is a part of the Los Angeles Auto Motor Show is the Los Angeles Design Challenge. It is a kind of competition that provides an opportunity to up and coming designers to work with an automaker to design a concept vehicle under few set requirement. This year, the theme is quite interesting. The challenge is to build a safe and comfortable car with an excellent handling and cutting edge design. It should not weigh more than 1,000lbs.
Mercedes-Benz here again comes up with a concept vehicle called the Biome Concept. The company describes it as a vehicle that “grows in a completely organic environment from seeds sown in a nursery”. In simple words, the Biome Concept is purely an organic hybrid vehicle, created in complete symbiosis with nature. It is a vehicle that produces its own oxygen and pretty much capable of contributing its role in the improvement of air quality.
According to the Mercedes, Biome is made from the Biofiber (a significantly lighter material), which makes the car weigh 875lbs. This material is supposed to be stronger than steel.
