Ford is planning to focus “more on development of production quality” of the existing models. Therefore, there is a possibility that it may cut the number of models in its catalog. Alan Mulally, President and CEO of Ford Motor Company, said in response to a questions about the new models of the North American manufacturer that the models of the brand will be fewer than 30 on the way to 20 or even 20.
Alan Mulally’s intentions are clear that the company wants to focus on quality rather than quantity. He justified his decision with the fact that fewer models will result in a more focus of company on the development of production quality.
According to Mulally, the simplification of the company through the production of smaller number of models helps the employees, distributors, Ford suppliers, shop owners and customers to know what they actually have.
He further added that company has to be simplified intensely. The simplification process not only has an impact on the models but also on the components of the vehicles also. Fiesta is an obvious example of this. Despite of having ten model variants worldwide, 65% of its components are standard.
