It is a matter of common observation that you parked your car, get out of it and close the door behind and immediately realize that you have forgotten to pick keys. This situation is really a troublesome, as you have no other way to open the door except the key. However, if you own an old model and a window is slightly ajar, you can try these tips to retrieve the keys.
Things Required
- Putty Knife
- Wire Hanger
Directions
- Take a wire hanger and bend it from one end either in the form of a hook or a triangular handle.
- If on the other hand, you have an old model, simply use putty knife to pry open a window by slipping it between the door and the window.
- When you have your window slightly open, insert the wire hanger through that window opening. Make sure the gap is between window and door is enough to maneuver the wire hanger easily.
- Guide the wire hanger skill fully through the gap along the window towards the lock. Try to pull up the door lock or push down the lock button –depending on your vehicle’s lock style.
- But if you have a newer model, your efforts may not be enough, you need to call a locksmith or tow truck for help.
Points to Remember
- Before trying to attempt to open the car lock with wire hanger or any other thing, make sure about the style of the lock your vehicle have. Old models may offer you some help. But newer models have enhanced security features, which might not offer you any help except to contact locksmith.
- In some 1980s model, you can use the standard house key to open the lock. Just insert it half way into the lock and try to open it. Don’t apply too much pressure as it may damage the lock.
