Why People Prefer Diesel Engine Over Gasoline

By Shenron on Aug 06, 2010 with Comments 0

Diesel engines are always in demand. What are the reasons that people want to have a diesel engine instead of gasoline. The one obvious reason is that diesel engines are more fuel efficient than gasoline. That is the reason that people prefer to go for vehicles powered by diesel engines nowadays. There are many other reasons for why diesel is way to go.

  • Diesel engines are somehow more environmental friendly as they emit 25 percent less carbon dioxide.
  • Vehicles powered by diesel engines are technically more powerful. Diesel engines produce higher torque at low speeds. You can easily tow a trailer or easily drive through hills.
  • Diesel engines are fuel efficient and get more miles in less fuel. They usually consume 30 percent less fuel than other counterparts.

Diesel Engine Why People Prefer Diesel Engine Over Gasoline

If we look for the demand of diesel engines, we will see that the highest demand of the diesel engines is in Europe. 42 percent of the total vehicle market is accounted for diesel engines. With the gradual increase in the gasoline prices in recent times, the demand for diesel engine vehicles have also been increased globally, especially in United States of America. Most of the popular automobile manufacturers like Hummer, Volkswagen, Ford, Mercedes, Chevrolet, GMC, Jeep and Dodge are now offering diesel models of many renowned cars, trucks and SUVs.

Most of the time we forget that switching to diesel engine is just not enough. Tom Wicks, manager of product development for Gold Eagle, an industry pioneer in the production and distribution of aftermarket fluids and additives, very rightly said that it is good to look for ways to enhance the performance of the diesel engine. He quotes some ways to maintain the diesel engine:

  • Air filter is an important component of diesel engine as diesel engine take in a lot of air for combustion process. Dirty or clogged air filter reduces the fuel efficiency of the diesel engine. It should be change or clean regularly.
  • Fuel injectors should be well lubricated and clean. Remove any layers of dirt, sand or any pollutants. You can use DieselPower to remove these impurities. Clean fuel injectors enhance the combustion process and eventually improve the fuel efficiency.
  • Follow the instructions given in the manufacturer manual and change the oil and oil filter as recommended. Over time oil becomes thin due to certain factors and lost its power to keep different parts lubricated. Hence a friction is produced and results in worn parts.
  • Proper tire pressure is also necessary to carry heavy loads. Check the sticker on the door frame for recommended tire pressures. Remember low tire pressure causes more resistance and engine requires more power to move the vehicle, eventually consumption of the fuel increases.

To improve the engine performance for towing purpose, use Cetane Booster, DieselPower (performance improver) to your fuel tank. Cetane will help fuel to burn quicker than normal and this will result in the improve performance of the engine.
