Legal steps are always involves whenever you are indulge in any sort of dealing like property, car or any other such thing. These legal formalities are important to fulfill to avoid the frustration and problems may arise in future. Similarly, when you sell a car a legal requirement has to be fulfilled in order to transfer the ownership of the car to the buyer.
Locate the Ownership or Title
Always keep the ownership at safer place. This is the only document which ensures that you are the owner of that car. In case you, you are still on installments, you need to pay all the installments before your lender will release the lien and issue a new title with your name.
Contact State Department of Motor Vehicles
Once you have paid all the dues and yet you have not got the clearance title, contact your lender and ask them to inform the State Department of Motor Vehicles for your lien release and issuance of clearance title.
Gather Other Paperwork
Keep all the required paperwork intact which you have to handover to buyer after a final deal. The paperwork usually contains vehicle registration, maintenance receipts, repair work list if any, and vehicle performance history report as well. They provide the buyer with enough information about the car. Handing over these papers to buyer ensure that he will not come back in future to claim any damages or repairs.
