How to Repair a Windshield Chip

Chipped windshield can be extremely dangerous. It is so made that a single crack or chip can expand over time, if neglected. No matter how small the damage or chip is, you have to take immediate steps to fix the chipped windshield to avoid any damage to you or your vehicle.
Why Repair a Chipped Windshield?
Windshield is made from reinforced laminated glass, which keeps the glass intact without being shattered in case of any accidents or crash avoid major damages. However, it receives the crack or small chips which can lead to magnanimous damage if not given any consideration soon. To replace the entire windshield is quite an expensive task, but you can ensure your and your passengers’ safety by repairing the chipped windshield.
Required Material
Windshield repair kit is used to repair the chipped windshield, easily available at all auto supply stores. The resin used in repairing kit keeps the prevent cracks or chips from further spreading. The resin makes a strong bond with the adjoining glass and laminates, gives the windshield a newer look.
You need the following material along with the windshield repair kit:
- Squeegee (window wiper)
- Hand-held rotary cleaning tool
- Soap and water
Instructions
- Wash the windshield properly with soapy water and remove the dust, dirt and other debris.
- Take a rotary cleaning tool and clean the chipped area thoroughly. Make sure that no dust, debris or broken pieces of chipped glass left behind. It should be clear enough to give the resin a smooth cure.
- Take a resin and inject it into the chipped hole evenly. Make sure that you don’t overfill the hole.
- Use the stickers come with repair kit and attach them to the back of the chipped area from inside. Take a second layer of the sticker and attach it to the chipped area on the outer side over the resin.
- Let the resin cure for about 1 hour, for better results let it cure overnight.
- Once the resin is cured properly, take the stickers off from both the sides of the chipped area. Wash the windshield with window cleaner. You will see that the chipped area is repaired perfectly.
Repairing chipped windshield is quite easy and inexpensive instead of replacing it with the new windshield which is expensive and time consuming process.
