Truck bed is the main part of the truck, which makes your truck practically important by shifting heavy loads and objects from one place to another. Truck bed is the part of the truck exposed to weather conditions almost an entire year. The exposure to different kind of weather conditions along with other different matters causes your truck bed scratches, rust, decay, dents, nicks etc. To protect your truck bed from damage easily and safely, hereunder are given few tips to help you.
Stopping or Preventing Rust on a Truck Bed
The severe damage which a truck bed faced is rust. The truck beds are very much exposed to elements an entire year. The truck beds are generally protected with paints and undercoating, but with the passage of time these compounds were unable to protect the surface. However, there is a product in the market which will prevent truck bed to from rust. The product is a brush on bed liner kit. This product is a liquid bed liner and pretty much like paint. This liquid liner is made of polyurethane/rubber and is extremely strong. Applying this liquid is very simple and easy. It costs less than $100 which is very much affordable and economical. With the help of this product the truck bed will have a long life
If there is a lot of rot, then bed liner will not be enough for it. First you have to stop the rust dead in its tracks by removing it.
- After locating the rotted and rusted out pieces of metal in your truck bed, remove them with a metal cutter or whatever is suitable.
- The metal will be used to cover the hole. Cut a piece of metal about 2 inches longer than the hole and bolt this metal piece to cover the hole.
- Bolts are used for outdoors and there prime object is to tighten the grip of metal sheet to truck bed; the carriage bolts are also useful. This way you won’t trip over them or your items in your truck bed won’t get snagged.
- Afterward paint the metal sheet and entire truck or use a liner that will do the trick and prevent truck bed from further damages.
