How to Polish Tires

A well prepared polished car is one that is perfectly clean, attractive and shiny in all aspects. But if you ignore the importance of wheels and don’t clean or polish them, it will ruin all your efforts on cleaning and polishing your car exterior. Following are given some points to help you polish your car’s wheels.

Required Items

  • Buffer
  • Car soap
  • Car polish
  • Coat sealant
  • Degreaser
  • Drill
  • 400 grit sandpaper
  • Rags
  • Water

Instructions:

There are two halves in polishing your car’s wheels

Washing and Cleaning Your Wheels

  • Separate the wheels from the axle so that you will clean them thoroughly.
  • Thoroughly wash the wheels with soapy water to remove the dirt and debris firmly stuck to the wheels.
  • Take a soft cloth or rag and clear the remaining dirt or debris from the wheels. Don’t scratch the wheels.
  • Take a damp cloth and dry off the wheels properly.
  • Using degreaser or wax, remove the grease properly from all the parts of the wheels. Don’t miss a single part.
  • Once again wash the wheels to make them free from any dirt or grease residues.
  • Make your wheels dry.

    Polishing Your Wheels

      • Take sandpaper with right type of grit according to your requirement. Wrong selection of grit may damage the surface of the wheels. Sand your wheels carefully to remove the pitting.
      • If you are unable to remove the pitting manually, use drill with sanding head to sand the big areas and to remove the pitting.
      • Wash your wheels again to remove the dirt residues. Dry off the wheels.
      • Spread the aluminum polish evenly over the wheels with the help of soft cloth.
      • You can use a drill with polisher to done things quickly.
      • Use the screw driver with tip covered with soft cloth to reach the areas like around the nut holes, valve stem and caps etc. examine the wheels carefully and remove the excess polish.
      • Use coat sealant and buff your wheels to get finest of the looks.

        Suggestions & Tips

        • Magnesium wheels usually don’t need polishing. You can simply wash them to get the pretty looks.
        • Don’t buy polish containing ammonia or anhydrous matters. These chemicals are dangerous and can damage your wheels’ surface.

        Polishing your wheels is an easy task. You can save a lot of money by doing this job at home instead of going to auto detailing shop. The above mention instructions will surely help you to have shiny wheels.
