It is always a tough job to find a parking place for your vehicle. Parking places are always overcrowded with cars and to find flat level space is a big task. This task further worsens when you have to park on steep slopes or hills. Many drivers feel hesitant to park the car on a hill, but often they have no other option. In this article we will tell you how to park your car on a hill in a secure way.
Directions
Parking on a hill is always a difficult task. Whenever you need to park a car, always look for some flat parking place. If you find one that is good for you but if you do not find any place other than a hill or steep slope, follow these directions to park your car securely.
- Do not be panic, just park as you normally do. For automatic transmission, put the gear to ‘Park.’ And for manual transmission, put your gear in neutral position.
- Keep your wheels turn towards the curb or sideways after parking. This will help your vehicle to stop in case of a slip.
- Also the wider contact of the tires with the road surface adds more traction to prevent it from slipping.
- Once you have parked the car, apply the parking brake and secure the steering wheel and the gear stick.
- Observe the wheels around the car to check if there are any sign of slip or the tires have gripped the road perfectly.
Using a Wedge or Log
If you don’t have any curb or sideways on the hilly parking areas, it is better to use a stop like wedge or log to prevent your car from slipping. Use these stops on the vehicle’s side facing the downhill. Remember one thing to turn the tries after parking is always useful either you are using stops or not, they will provide a little help on sloppy surface.
Make sure that you vehicle’s tires and brakes are in good condition to give your car an ample support while parking on hilly or sloppy areas because nothing is greater than people’s safety.
