Pininfarina, an Italian engineering and designing firm has started a new long term project called Nido Development Programme. This programme focuses on developing a modular platform which will be the backbone for a number of new electric and hybrid vehicles.
The Nido city car is the first prototype they have come up with, it has the same class and size as smart for two and is electrically powered.
Nido marks the 80th anniversary of Pininfarina.
The length of the car is 2905 mm, width is 1683 mm and it has a height of 1507 mm. The car weighs nearly 900 kg. It is an urban commuter car for two persons.
The electric power-train located above the rear wheels where the power goes is consists of a Synchronous with permanent magnetos electric motor and ZEBRA Z5 (Ni-NaCl) 278V batteries. It generates 30 KW and 125 Nm of peak torque.
This is enough for a 0 to 60 km/h sprint in just a short time of 6.7 second and an electronically limited top speed of 120 km/h. The range of the vehicle on full charge is 140 km. It also takes up to 8 hours to recharge.
