How to Replace Fog Lights

Fog lights are really helpful in the foggy conditions. Fog is common in plan as well as hilly areas. So, fog lights are equally important for all the drivers. Fog lights are of great help in extreme weather conditions when visibility is very low. It is necessary to check your fog lights before driving in extreme weather conditions. They are easy to replace, here are some steps which help you to replace fog lights easily.
Items Needed
- Electrical crimping plier
- Fog lights
- 1/4 inch sockets set
- 1/4 ratchet
- Electrical connectors
- Screwdriver
Steps
- Lift the front of your car with the help of jack and give support with jack stands, locate the wires lead to the fog lights.
- Cut the wire with the help of the electrical crimping plier and leave the remaining wire for new lights.
- Strip the insulation off from the remaining wire with the help of wire stripper. Wire stripper would be at the end of the handle of the crimping tool.
- Now remove the old fog lights with the help of ratchet.
- Install brackets on your new fog lights. You can use 1/4 inch sockets or screwdriver for installation. Place the new fog lights at specific point and fasten the bolts.
- To adjust the aim of the fog light, open the bracket and once you are done, replace the bracket tightly.
- Now take a butt connector and connect the electrical wires and crimp the connectors subsequently.
- Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle. Turn on the fog lights and test whether they are working or not. Park the car 20 feet away from a wall and examine the light. It should be two feet high slightly toward the right and as bright as it can on the wall 20 feet away. The left light should be in center.
Always check you fog lights before going out in an extreme weather conditions, because poor visibility in bad weather can be severe.
