For comfortable and cool ride in summer season car air conditioner is an important device. However, if you find it is not cooling well then there must be something wrong with it. You need to add Freon or check other components. It is not that difficult, you can check it for yourself.
Items Required
- Gloves
- Goggles
- Freon
Steps
- It is important to make sure you are using the right kind of coolant for your car as recommended by vehicle manufacturer. It may be R-12 or if your car model is older than 1993, do not use Freon and contact your mechanic.
- Locate the recharging hoses and the Freon reservoir. Except the shorter hose which is attached to the Freon, all the other hoses from gauges are fixed to the compressor.
- Remove the valve of Freon reservoir and also remove the hose connection. This will let the reservoir free from contaminants. Once it is free from all impurities replace the valve and reconnect the hose connection.
- Switch on the engine and set the air conditioner on full high. Open the reservoir valve and carefully add Freon in it. Be sure not to spill any drop on your skin or any engine part. Once the Freon is added to the required level, replace the reservoir valve.
- Don’t add Freon more than the required level, it may cause damage to your engine and the air conditioner.
Suggestions
- Always use goggles.
- To avoid frostbites, always use gloves and long sleeves apron.
- Attach all the connections carefully; any wrong connection will ends up in major disaster.
- Freon can be extremely dangerous for your skin and for your vehicle, handle it with care and try not to spill it on your skin or on your vehicle’s body.
